Carrara man wins $1.6 million on quickie lunch break
A Carrara man who dropped into the Nerang RSL and Memorial Club for “a quick bite to eat” on the 3rd December 2009 walked out a millionaire, winning more than $1.6 million playing Keno - his second Keno win in two days.
The 43-year old man, who works for Queensland Transport, was literally sick with excitement after the initial shock of the win wore off.
“it’s all sinking in now,” the man said. “I played Keno last night and won $580 with eight out of 10 numbers,” he said.
“Somethings going on: the most I’ve ever won before is $60.”
The man, who has a teenage daughter, said he likes his job and doesn’t know if he’s ready to retire just yet.
However he’s got plans to finish improvements on his mother’s house, which he has been working on himself, as well as buy a better one for himself and his daughter.
“We were half way through [the renovations] and had to cut back, now I can finish the job; she’s pretty happy about that,” he said.
There’s also plans for a trip around Australia, possibly even in style in a new motor home.
The man won the 10-number jackpot on the second last game of a 20 $1 game ticket with the numbers 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 25, 28, 66, 69 and 71.
Gold Coast Keno Business Development Manager, Wendy Stitz, said the south-east had witnessed some of the biggest win’s this year, with the Nerang win making four million-dollar plus jackpots since January 2009.Â
