Just one day after losing his job, a Potts Point rigger and dogman was singing “Viva Las Vegas Hotel” when he won no less than three separate Keno jackpots totaling more than $187,000.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, won the three jackpots in the same game, picking eight out of eight numbers, nine out of nine numbers and then nine out of ten.

The Vegas Hotel regular said he was a casual employee and had worked a 14-hour shift on Saturday 6th March and then the same the following day, only to be let go by his employer on the Tuesday.

“I turn 65 next month and I don’t have any super, so it’s great to know I’ve now got a bit of a backstop. Thank goodness, because I had nothing,” the man said.

While retirement isn’t on the horizon for the grateful winner, he said he plans to use some of the money to visit his new baby granddaughter in Rotorua.

“I might have to go to New Zealand to see my new granddaughter,” he said. “She was born only a month ago; she’s number seven. I’ve got them ranging in age from 28 years to one month old.”

The triple jackpot wasn’t the first jackpot win for the regular Keno player, having scored a tidy $21,000 a couple of years ago.

His total investment to win the almost $200,000 prize pool was only $15, comprising of five $1 bets for each jackpot, all with the same number combintation of 2, 8, 9, 10, 13, 15, 36, 38, 45 and 64.

The man said he was “a bit dissapointed” he hadn’t picked 10 out of 10 numbers, especially as the only number that had not come up was 64 - his age.

Vegas Hotel Operations Manager, Ben Richards, said the hotel was very excited about the triple jackpot win and was even happier to see it go to such a deserving winner and regular patron of the hotel.

Ben said he hoped the win would encourage other locals to visit the pub and soak up a little of the “winning feeling” with their friends and family.

“The thing we love about Keno at our hotel is that it’s such a social game. You can come in for dinner with friends and while you’re enjoying a meal and talking, you can also share the excitement of playing a few Keno games without leaving your table,” Ben said.

“What really adds to the thrill of watching Keno live is that you’ve got the opportunity to win one million dollars every three minutes, instantly,” he said.�
